Film review of "The Legend of Zorro";

Hollywood periodically turns to the forgotten genre of "cloak and sword", as if to prove that the "dream factory" can make even an archaic thing work at first glance. Fortunately, the prospect of being put on the assembly line for this genre is not yet in danger. Not every project in this area becomes a box office hit. "The mask of Zorro" was one of the few exceptions. This is not to say that Hollywood has managed to breathe new life into the legend of the avenger, but the film turned out to be lively, funny and spectacular. Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins were well suited to the roles of young and old Zorro, and Welsh-born Catherine Zeta-Jones charmed the audience, instantly becoming a star.

There is no Hopkins in the sequel, and the charm of the experienced and wise avenger who animated the screen in the "Mask of Zorro" is greatly lacking this time. Banderas and Zeta-Jones are still there, but their characters haven't changed much. The new status of husband and wife allows you to fill the film with completely optional family scenes. But for Hollywood screenwriters, they were the ones who were required, because the creators tried to make a movie about the triumph of family values.

The most depressing thing is the attempt to tie politics to the plot. That's the difference between a "cloak and sword" movie shot in any other country and an American one – in the U.S. version, it's not enough for the hero to just protect the innocent, he needs to save democracy. And this time, strangely enough, it is not Asia that threatens her, but Europe, which is secretly ruled by an ancient knight clan.

The very idea of the "Zorro family" seems far-fetched. Admittedly, the scriptwriters got everything they could out of her: they added humor, a little mystery, left a lot of sentiment and gave each character the opportunity to play an important role in the plot at some point. And yet, the avenger in a mask with a sword, burdened with a family, and even more so with the service of democracy, seems to be losing his wings. The appeal of the classic image of Zorro, like many other heroes of the genre, was the freedom that existence under a mask gives. During the day, he played his role, but in reality he was free from laws, from political views, from everyday life. He was protecting the poor, not saving his homeland from the Europeans. And the idea of giving Zorro a family can only be explained by the producers' desire to see Zeta-Jones in the film, whose popularity continued to grow. There are characters in popular culture who are very difficult to imagine married. I wonder how many years James Bond would have lasted on the screen if they had decided to marry him seriously and for a long time?

The film is saved by the action scenes. There are not many of them, but they are very dynamic and spectacular and clearly outshine those in the first part. For their sake, the "Legend of Zorro" is worth watching. The 1xbet promo code is the definitive term for the code that unlocks the sign-up offer.
